This joke all hinges on hard-to-understand recipe instructions. I spent hours combing through the cookbooks in my home only to find the instructions above. I'm not entirely satisfied with them, either. It turns out most cookbooks (at least the ones in my home) are pretty easy to follow.If any of you have some cookbook directions that are better; pass them along in the comments section, I'll change the wording of this strip, and you can relish in the knowledge that you've contributed to a comic strip.

I love the blank expression in the second pane. That's the same look I get any time I see a recipe more complicated than boiling water or pouring cold cereal.
ReplyDeleteI once started to follow a rcipe for hot dog soup out of a deseret cookbook. I had to google to find out that "brown in a saucepan" meant fry!
ReplyDeleteThe first dinner I ever cooked for Dad and Joel called for a "clove of garlic". Well having never cooked, I assumed this meant the whole bulb of garlic. Needless to say, the dinner was hard to swallow but being the good sports that they were, Dad and Joel ate the whole dinner and even complimented me on it afterwards. Love, Jena
ReplyDeleteThe joke becomes even better when you notice that the missionaries have ingredients for cookies on the table (i.e. flour, salt, eggs, vanilla, mixing bowl) instead of anything resembling a ham dinner.
