Last week's comic on "Dear Johns" elicited this comment from faithful reader Jena: "I think that the best way to Dear John a missionary is to just slowly phase out the letters."
That strategy may or may not have worked for Jena and her ex-boyfriends (you'd have to ask them), but often it leaves the missionary preoccupied with thoughts on home for weeks or months on end--as this week's comic strip demonstrates.
Next week, I'll share the more-effective way (to steal a phrase from the old Missionary Guide) to Dear John a missionary.

I love seeing Elder Van Dyke in color and would love to see more like this. Great job!
ReplyDeleteHey, wait! Doesn't Mindy do the coloring?
ReplyDeleteAnd I forget. How many letter-phasings did Jena actually do? More than her share, I suspect.
I don't know how many boys Jena Dear Johned but she proved extremely apt at phasing out letter writing to this missionary.
ReplyDeleteWow. It's not even pick on Jena day. Arie you can't say that I phased out letters to you since technically, I only wrote you faithfully for one week in the MTC. And for the record, I only phased out one missionary and it was done for a good reason: I was dating Marc. So let's save the rest of the Jena bashing for the 4th Saturday in April please. I can't wait to see the proper way to Dear John a missionary next week
ReplyDeleteIt would have been funny if that letter WAS a wedding announcement.
ReplyDeleteThat might be too cruel.
