Here's a poll: do you start your church talks with a joke?
Another year has come and gone, I've been at this now for three years. Thanks to all of you for sticking with the blog.

Santa's Sleigh
Once again I return to the North Pole 1st Ward. These gags practically write themselves. (Especially when you've got faithful readers like Jon F. providing ideas for them.)
If you're interested in more LDS Christmas comics, check out my Mormon Cartoonist friend Kevin Beckstrom's blog, he's got everything from Christmas zombies to Frosty the Snowman's final moment to an illustration of 3 Nephi chapter 1. As with pretty much every holiday, he's got Christmas pretty much covered.

On Santa's Knee
Today's gag is featured in this month's New Era.
It's not the first time I've drawn a missionary sitting on Santa's lap for that magazine. Below is a gag they published years ago.
Ignoring the coloring job on the old joke, I think both of these gags work because there is something inherently funny about seeing a grown man sitting on Santa's knee. And I think this year's gag is funnier because if one grown man on a knee is funny, two grown men on a knee is a riot! Next year I'll test the law of diminishing returns when I submit a joke with an entire missionary district on Santa's knee.

Take Me To Your Leader
This is another gag from the comedy trio of Jena L. and Eric and Ava V. They're so good together when it comes to writing silly Mormon single-panel gags that I was thinking of abbreviating and combining their names like the celebrity rags do. How does J-Aver sound?

Tear Jerker
I'm sure I prefer the Church's media today over the stuff it was producing in the late eighties and early nineties. The Mormon Messages of today seem much more sincere than the tear jerkers we were showing as missionaries.
Although nothing tops The Phone Call.

Friends of Scouting
We're right in the thick of the Friends of Scouting drive season. If you're lucky, the scouts have already visited your home. If not, you can always try the tactic displayed in today's gag.*
*Full disclosure: I tried this very line and just got a bunch of blank stares from the scouts at my door. In the end, I ended up contributing like I always do.**
**Fuller disclosure: this is the point in a post like this where I point out that my tongue is firmly in my cheek and that sometimes I exaggerate for the sake of humor on this blog.***
***Fullest disclosure: I'm being very generous when I call anything on this blog humorous.
