Rest Hymns
We call them rest hymns, but really their purpose is exactly the opposite of that. Clearly we need a better name for those songs we sing two-thirds the way through Sacrament Meeting as we steel ourselves for the High Council talk yet to come. Any suggestions?

Gird Hymns?
ReplyDeleteAs in Girding your loins
I've always called them Intermediate Hymns... You could also call them Stretch Hymns, if you stand to sing them...

ReplyDeleteLike Samuel says, they are called Intermediate Hymns in the UK too. Always seem to trigger a few trips out to the washrooms (particularly among the younger members!).
ReplyDeleteWe call it the Intermediate Hymn in my ward, and typically it's not even a restful hymn; we usually have a more energetic hymn at that time, like "High On the Mountaintop" or "Hark, All Ye Nations." So I find this gag rather comedic.
