As a missionary, I never participated in much Bible bashing. For one thing, I never saw it doing anything except create hard feelings. And for another thing, I wasn't any good at it.
(Starting this week at deseretnews.com, they'll be running my single panel gags. That being the case, there was no way they weren't going to begin with my all-time favorite.)
If you want a REAL Bible-basher, I recall one preacher - a Baptist I think - who got really excited, banging his fist down on the pulpit and sent his Bible flying into the pews, narrowly missing me!
ReplyDeleteStill, in the sense of your cartoon, as I come from a background that includes being a Methodist lay preacher, I know the Bible really well and the Book of Mormon confirms (and often expands upon) what it says. That's a leading reason that I chose to convert, it all made sense! What a member of the intelligence community would call second source confirmation...
Thanks for sharing your experience, Megan. (And for the awesome image of the preacher's bible flying through the air.)
DeleteMy experience with the Book of Mormon is similar. I find it too profound and moving to be anything short of what it purports to be: the word of God.
