Homecoming Talk Two Years Too Early

Today's strip is a continuation of the strip featured last week. I don't know if this was unique to me or if other missionaries were prone to do it, but at the beginning of my service in Slovenia I would narrate in my head all the things I was going to include in my homecoming talk. This probably continued for about a month or two where I sketched out time and again the content of my homecoming talk.

The problem I faced, like Elder Van Dyke, is I didn't have any conclusions to my stories. So I ultimately abandoned my exercise until about the night before I spoke to my home ward roughly 22 months later. (Of course, by abandoning the practice of viewing every event that took place around me as potential material for a sermon, I became a much better missionary.)

  1. The unintended consequences of sending our younglings off on their missions: last Sunday we turned up for the Sacrament meeting and... there was no bread! The young man we'd just seen off was always the person who brought it and nobody else had remembered. So the Bishop sent his dad to fetch some :)
