Here's a list of changes to church programs since January 2009 (the month I started this blog):
Discontinuation of enrichment, change in missionary ages, discontinuation of Varsity and Venture Scouts, combination of high priest groups and elder's quorums, discontinuation of home and visiting teaching, creation of ministering assignments for Melchizedek and Aaronic Priesthood as well as Relief Society and Young Women, discontinuation of all scout activities including (sniff) the pinewood derby.
Did I miss any? For each of those programs I've drawn at least one gag. This has made my back category full of out of date references. Maybe I'll have to start clearancing those particular comics at half off.

While it is sad that so much of your old material isn’t relevant anymore, think of all the new, fresh stuff you get to work with now!
ReplyDelete"So they were visited by the sisters, eh? Where does that leave you?"
ReplyDeleteThey discontinued the ward Activities committee when I was on my mission back in 2010 or so.
ReplyDeleteI remember that. I never failed in a calling more than ward activity committee chair.
DeleteNew Handbook in 2010; Come Follow Me for youth, followed by a similar program for adults; missionaries using iPads and Facebook; "BYU" wards renamed and repurposed to be "Provo YSA" wards; introduction of online tools for clerks and bishoprics; first mobile app produced by the Church in 2010 (Gospel Library for iOS); "share goodness" emphasis; Church YouTube and I'm a Mormon campaigns; 2013 edition of the standard works; first LDS edition of the Bible in a language other than English... It's been a busy decade!
ReplyDeleteWow. Nice list.
DeleteTime to release a new book filled with outdated comics?
ReplyDeleteThat's a best seller for sure!
