Ancient Missionary Story One-Upmanship

I was in the presents of a couple of recently returned missionaries last week and it was interesting to hear them share stories about their mission. They reminded me of myself before I developed a sense of humility* and stopped viewing every other missionary story I ever heard as a challenge to my own set of missionary stories. It made me wonder if that kind of practice was prevalent in the primitive church.

*Who am I kidding, it wasn't a sense of humility that stopped my stories, it was my own poor memory.
